According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News and Bloomberg, Nintendo plans to introduce an updated edition of the famous Switch Game console by 2021.
It may be the first significant update to the Switch since its introduction in March 2017. Bloomberg points out that Nintendo “has been looking into combining processing resources and high-definition 4 K graphics.”
Nintendo launched two different Switch versions last year, which used a more compact variant of the initial hardware to allow a smaller form factor and a better battery life without substantial change in performance.
Although the Switch hardware is based on Nvidia’s system-on-chip Tegra X1, which was launched 5 years ago, the Mobile processor technology has gone a lot of changes and the result is a major Switch speed boost.
According to the report, the Japanese gaming giant will be adding more computing capacity and 4 K graphics in the new Switch model. The new Nintendo model will ensure the brand to compete with Microsoft and Sony, who would announce their next consoles wave in the fall.
In the event of the ongoing pandemic which influenced the video game industry and boost their sales, both the Microsoft Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 from Sony are expected to launch their consoles soon.
