A space object or asteroid known as 2018VP1 is calculated to head towards earth. According to the Center For Near-Earth Objects Studies at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, this asteroid has a 0.41 percent chance of hitting the planet later this year. NASA’s confirmation regarding this, is based on 21 observations spanning 12.968 days.
According to the observations, the diameter of this asteroid is about 6.5 feet or 0.002 km. This asteroid was first identified in 2018 at the Palomar Observatory in California. NASA confirmed in a statement regarding the chances of destruction due to collision with this asteroid –
“Asteroid 2018VP1 is very small, approximately 6.5 feet (1.9 meters), and poses no threat to Earth. If it were to enter our planet’s atmosphere, it would disintegrate due to its extremely small size“.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and latest civil unrest across the United States, this Asteroid is forecasted to come closer to earth on 2nd November. This will be the day before the presidential election date in the US.
Though the chance of collision is very low, then also we are excited to witness how it is going to happen. The meteorite falls have always entertained us, so from the observations and reports, we can expect this will be something like that. So, due to the small size, this 2018VP1 asteroid will not be able to trigger the end of the world or even won’t have a deep impact.
